GENITAL WARTS
Genital warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They are only one the many forms of this virus that also causes regular warts (on hands, feet, etc.). You can get genital warts in or around your anus and vagina or on and around your penis and testicles. The first symptoms may occur three weeks after infection, but it can also take a whole year before you notice anything. At first, the warts can be difficult to detect because they are barely visible and they don't give any particular sensation or pain. Later, they turn into cauliflower-like warts. They can itch and but they are not painful.
If you get no treatment there will be no serious consequences for your health, but they can be very annoying.
The virus can be passed on indirectly, via a hand or a wet towel for instance but also directly by close and continous skin-to-skin contact (like when making love). Condoms reduce the risk of infection but do not provide complete protection. It is therefore advisable to avoid sexual contact if you, your partner or your client has warts.
